Does Chanderi fabric shrink after washing?

Chanderi usually shows very little shrinkage. Since it is a silk–cotton blend or silk-based weave, shrinkage is minimal if washed gently. However, harsh washing or hot water can dull the sheen and slightly tighten the fabric.

What to expect:

  • Low shrinkage

  • High risk of texture and shine damage

  • Best handled with gentle wash or dry clean

Does Modal fabric shrink?

Modal may show slight shrinkage, especially in the first wash. It is made from natural cellulose and becomes weaker when wet.

What to expect:

  • Minor shrinkage possible

  • Softness can reduce if washed roughly

  • Cold water wash recommended

Does Organza shrink?

Organza does not usually shrink, especially if it is silk organza or polyester organza. However, it can lose stiffness or structure if washed incorrectly.

What to expect:

  • No real shrinkage

  • Shape distortion possible

  • Dry clean or very gentle hand wash only

Does Velvet shrink after washing?

Velvet does not shrink easily, but it is very sensitive to water and heat. Improper washing can crush the pile permanently.

What to expect:

  • No shrinkage

  • High risk of texture damage

  • Always dry clean recommended

Does Khadi shrink after washing?

Yes. Khadi is handspun and handwoven, so shrinkage is expected, especially in the first wash.

What to expect:

  • Noticeable shrinkage initially

  • Fabric settles after 1–2 washes

  • Cold water wash reduces shrinkage

Does Crepe fabric shrink?

Crepe generally shows little to no shrinkage, especially if it is synthetic crepe. Natural crepe blends may shrink slightly.

What to expect:

  • Stable size

  • Wrinkling if stored or washed incorrectly

  • Gentle wash preserves texture

Why do some fabrics shrink and others don’t ?

Shrinkage depends on:

  • fibre type (natural vs synthetic)

  • weave structure

  • finishing process

  • washing method

Natural and semi-natural fibres absorb water and relax, causing shrinkage. Synthetic fibres are heat-set, so they stay stable.
